Attendance

A phone call to the school to report the absence is no longer necessaryunless the absence is going to be 5 or more days.

If a student is absent, the parent/guardian must submit a written note for the absence to be excused. The note must include the Childs name (real, not nickname), student ID #, the reason for the absence, a working telephone # and a parent signature. This note is to be turned into the attendance office within 3 school days of the students return in order for it to be excused. If the note is turned in after the 3 day period, the absence is considered unexcused. (We do keep the note on file).

If a student needs to be picked up early from school, the parent needs to write a note, again include the child's name, reason for early release, ID #, working telephone # and parent signature. The student turns the note into the attendance office and where they are issued a pass for the student to be released early. The student comes to the attendance office, signs out and meets the parent/guardian out front.

All travel must be pre-approved by Ms. Morrison. A note must be submitted and be signed off by Colleen Murillo, Ms. Morrison and each student's teacher.

If student is late they must have a note for the tardy to be excused. The note must include all of the above. Car trouble, traffic, metro bus reasons are not excused.

The following are legitimate reasons for being late/absence:
  • Death in family
  • Illness
  • Court
  • Religious holiday
  • State emergency
  • Hazardous weather conditions
  • Lack of MCPS transportation
  • Permission from principal
  • College visit
  • Job Interviews
  • Field trips
Three tardies = one absence (unexcused) 5 unexcused absences = loss of credit for the class
