Northwest Choirs Earn Top Ratings
Thursday, 20 March 2022

The Northwest High School Chamber and Concert Choirs earned the rating of "Superior" or "One" in every category of musical literacy, vocal technique, musical effect, stylistic accuracy, tone quality and professionalism at the District II Choral Adjudication on Tuesday, March 18, 2008. Choral students performed prepared pieces of choral music from multiple genres, cultures and languages.

Choral students were also challenged to sight sing music in four part harmony they had never seen or heard before. Sight singing is a higher order thought process in which the singer has learned to hear the notes written on the page without the benefit of having seen them or heard them played before. Choral students are given a brief opportunity for silent study. Then the choral students perform the four part music aloud without the help of any instrument. Northwest students earned a superior rating in this category as well.

Carolyn Gipe, Director of Choirs at Northwest High School, wishes to extend her congratulations to her students for their commitment to excellence and their diligence in the attainment of such remarkable accomplishments. She remains proud to share the stage with each of you!
