UPCOMING COLLEGE FAIRS!
CollegeExpos College Fair field trip on Tuesday, October 20. 9:30 am to 11:30 am. FREE. Buses filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Permission forms will be distributed through Counselor Presentations to Seniors beginning October 6. Permission forms will also be available in the College/Career Information Center after Tuesday, October 6. Permission forms must be returned to the College/Career Information Center no later than October 14. For information on participating colleges visit www.collegeexpos.com. NWHS field trip event is for SENIORS. Students should plan to bring lunch on the day of the event. [POSTED OCT 1]

HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership) – open to SOPHOMORES ONLY; one NWHS student selected; HOBY is a one-week leadership seminar held in the spring of each year at a local college or university campus. One student is chosen from each high school. Registration fees are at no cost to the student. This is an exciting opportunity for students to join student leaders from all over the state of Maryland to discuss leadership issues such as motivation, ethics, volunteerism, education and the media; for additional program information visit www.hoby.org; DEADLINE TO APPLY – NOVEMBER 6, 2009. 2010 Maryland General Assembly Student Page Program.
Selected high school seniors, who attend public or nonpublic schools within the State of Maryland, will be given the opportunity to participate as pages for members of the Maryland General Assembly during the 2009 session. The program is designed to:

  • Interest youth in state government, more specifically, in the proceedings of the legislature;
  • Increase participation in government and foster leadership among youth; and
  • Provide students with worthwhile experiences in state government, especially the legislature.

Qualifications and application are available to download. Applicants must be seniors at at least 16 years of age. [POSTED SEPT 10]

High School college visits: Students are able to meet with representatives from colleges, vocational schools, the military, and various career fields. Students sign up for these visits in the center before school, during lunch or after school and must have teacher permission to attend. Visits run daily on JAG TV and are also available to seniors registered with Family Connection.

Students have access to print material such as college catalogs, view books, applications and career catalog and reference material. Students may use the computers for college, interest inventories, career, and scholarship searches.
