Dear Northwest School Community: It is with sadness that I inform you of the death of Edwin Miller, rising junior, at Northwest High School. Edwin collapsed during a voluntary conditioning workout at Northwest High School on Thursday, July 2, 2009. Edwin was transported by ambulance to Shady Grove Hospital and later transported to Children’s Hospital. Unfortunately, Edwin’s condition worsened and he passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009. It is very difficult for all of us to face the death of a young person. A support team of psychologists, counselors, and pupil personnel workers from Montgomery County Public Schools was contacted to be available to provide counseling and support to students, as needed. Your child may have questions and worries about this loss. Please feel free to contact the school at 301-601-4660, if you have concerns or questions you would like to discuss. I know you join me in extending our heartfelt sympathy to Edwin’s family. There is a vigil scheduled for Wednesday, July 15th, on the NWHS track at 7:00pm. A wake service is scheduled at the church on Friday, July 17 at 7:00 p.m. Edwin’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday, July 18th at 9:00 a.m., at the Covenant United Methodist Church. There will be a repast at Northwest High School following the funeral on Saturday.
