Tuesday, 04 March 2022
Dear Parents/Guardians of the Class of 2008: As the end of the spring semester approaches and students near completion of their high school experience, the planning of senior class events shifts into high gear. The following is important information that will be discussed at the Class of '08 Parent Meeting on Wednesday, March 12th at 7:00pm in our school auditorium. Please don't miss this special meeting for parents. Bring your questions and your calendar! Senior Banquet The senior banquet will be held on Thursday, April 24th in the Northwest High School cafeteria. The event will be from 6:00pm until 9:00pm and will include a catered dinner and the announcement of the senior superlative awards. After dinner, a D.J. will provide music for dancing and a "Senior Memories" slide show will run throughout the evening. Tickets are $20. Prom 2008 The Junior/Senior Prom will be held on Friday, May 16th at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. (Directions to the Hilton are included in this mailing.) Prom will begin at 8:00pm and end at the stroke of midnight. Desserts and beverages, including a fabulous "Smoothie Bar", will be available. Tickets will be sold for only three weeks prior to the event. Ticket prices are as follows: April 28, 29, 30, May 1, 2 $60 May 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 $70 May 12, 13, 14, 15 $80 After Prom 2008 The Germantown Recreation Center (next to Kingsview Middle School) will again be the sight of After Prom. This event is sponsored by the NWHS PTSA. The cost is $5 for advance tickets and $10 at the door. After Prom begins at 12:01am on Saturday, May 17th and ends at 5:00am. Graduation The Class of 2008 graduation ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 11th at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC. Commencement exercises will begin promptly at 10:00am. Students need to be at Constitution Hall by 9:00am that morning to line up. For your convenience, bus transportation from NWHS and back is available for $13/person (including the graduate). An order form for bus transportation is included in this mailing. You may also reach Constitution Hall via Metro's Red Line. It is approximately a 10-15 minutes walk from the Farragut North Metro station. Driving directions will be provided but be cautioned that parking in DC can be difficult on a weekday morning. If there is any student or guest who requires a sign language or a cued speech transliterator or special seating, please contact Mrs. Marcinko or Mr. Putnam before March 20, 2008, to make arrangements. Graduation Tickets Each senior will receive five (5) tickets to the commencement ceremonies at Constitution Hall. A limited number of additional tickets are available. Requests must be made in writing or by email to Mrs. Marcinko (see email address below) from Monday, May 1st to Friday, May 16th. You must include the name of your senior, their ID#, and the number of tickets you are requesting. Extra ticket requests will be accepted in the order of their receipt. Every effort will be made to give each family requesting tickets some, if not all, of the tickets requested. There is no guarantee that all tickets requested will be able to be given. The graduate does not need a tickettheir cap and gown admits them to the hall. Graduation tickets will be distributed at lunchtime and after school from Tuesday, May 27th through Friday, May 30th in the gymnasium. Tickets may be picked up in the business office from Monday, June 2nd through Monday, June 9th. Students must pick up and sign for their own tickets. Tickets not picked up by June 9th will be distributed to people on a waiting list. Cap and Gown If your son/daughter has not yet purchased their cap and gown through us at NWHS, they should do so immediately. Order forms are available in Room 212. The cost is $100; (cash or check payable to NWHS). We will place our final order with the Jostens Company in April so seniors who have not paid us by Thursday, April 24th, will receive an obligation for the $100 cost. Be reminded that students with obligations cannot participate in school activities, (e.g. Senior Banquet, Prom), so please make arrangements to pay the cap and gown fee to Mr. Putnam before Thursday, April 24th. Seniors will receive their cap and gown at the graduation rehearsal on Tuesday, June 10th at 7:45am. If you are interested in graduation announcements or other graduation-related merchandise, please view the Jostens website at www.jostens.com for orders on your own that will be delivered to your home address.
