Scholarships

The following scholarships have been received in the College/Career Center. They are listed by earliest deadline and are for seniors unless otherwise specified.

  • Tom Joyner Foundation will award one scholarship to a senior entering a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the fall or 2008. This is a full-ride for a senior who has attained a 3.5 GPA and a reading/math SAT of 1300. Community service, extracurricular activities, leadership are all taken into consideration. Deadline to apply is January 18, 2008.

  • Ronald McDonald House Charities offers four different scholarships. Seniors who are eligible to attend a two or four-year college may only apply for one scholarship program. RMHS/ASIA: At least one parent of Asian-Pacific heritage; RMHC/Future Achievers: At least one parent of African American or Black Caribbean heritage; RMHC/HACER: At least one parent of Hispanic heritage; RMHC/Scholars: All eligible to apply. Information is available at www.rmhc.org or call 1 866-851-3994 for applications. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2008.

  • Monsanto Company provides scholarships through its Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program. Seniors must plan to pursue a career in an agriculture-related field. Applications may be accessed online at www.monsanto.com or www.ffa.com. Deadline to apply is February 15, 2008.

  • The University of Maryland announces dance scholarships for gifted and talented dance majors. Information is available at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Deadline for application is February 17, 2008.

  • NAACP will award five $1,000 scholarships to Montgomery County seniors. Eligible students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, participate in extracurricular activities as well as in church and/or community activities. Deadline to submit application is February 21, 2008.

  • National Association of Women Business Owners is awarding two $1,000 scholarships to female high school seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial talents. To be qualified you must be planning to attend college and have taken the SAT. Deadline: February 29, 2008.

  • Guaranteed Access Grant is available for seniors who are Maryland residents to attend a school in Maryland full-time. Seniors must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA and meet the family income limits. For example, for a family of four, total family income may not exceed $26,845. Deadline to apply is March 1.

  • Ira Dorsey Scholarship Fund awards a $1,000 scholarship to an graduating senior who lives in the DC Metro area and has a minimum of a 2.5 GPA and plans to attend a four-year college. An essay is required as well as recommendations. Deadline to apply is Friday, March 7, 2022

  • Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will once again award scholarships to Montgomery County students who are not only academically talented but who symbolize the fraternity�s precept of �servants to all.� Essays required and the deadline for complete applications is April 3, 2008.

  • Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships to children of Marines. You must be a graduating senior and your 2007 family income must be $77,000 a year or less. Call 1 800-292-7777 or go online at www.mcsf.org for additional information. Deadline to apply is March 3, 2008.

  • The Federal Water Quality Association has three/four $1,500 to $2,000 scholarships to award to encourage students to prepare for careers in environmental protection by supporting studies leading to a bachelor�s degree in applicable sciences of engineering. Students must be attending a four-year college, have SAT/ACT scores, show commitment to the environment and complete an essay. Deadline: Application must be received by April 21, 2008.

  • FAFSA REMINDER: You may go online to www.fafsa.ed.gov to file for financial aid. This is a priority and you may estimate income until you know the actual amounts.
